UT: JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT THE NOTEBOOKS

Brooklyn-based artist, Jean-Michel Basquiat kept notebooks filled with poetry, images, words, sketches and personal observations in varying topics from popular culture to race, class and world history. Some of these themes and iconic images recur in Basquiat's paintings and other works. The notebooks clearly show Basquiat's profound interest in urban culture, specifically in New York, including street and pop art, hip hop and politics.
