The bad news is that we have now sold out of Bauduc 2015 and unfortunately there is no more until the 2016 vintage is released.

The good news is that Château Sainte-Marie 2015 is just arriving at our warehouse. Their vineyard is almost next door to Bauduc and has the same terroir and micro climate. The wines are similar in style - crisp, dry with mild herbaceous lemon flavours.Decide for yourself which is the best, both are delicious and excellent value. Stephane Dupuch the winemaker at Château Sainte-Marie is hugely talented and a rising star - his 2015 vintage is highly recommended.

"From Entre-Deux-Mers, this is a blend of 70% Sauvignon Blanc with Semillon and Muscadelle, weighing in with just 12.5% alcohol. The Sauvignon dominates the aromatics, green-tinged but ripe notes of melon and waxy limes, a nice sense of restraint and elegance and quite tight. On the palate it is really very cool and pure, much more about crunchy apple and citrus, flecked with a touch of more exotic melon and peach, but taut with a spine of crisp, shellfish-friendly acidity. Dear Affiliates,

We pride ourselves on having built up a unique range of declassified wines from the great Bordeaux Châteaux including the First Growths, Super Seconds and other Bordeaux stars. It takes a long time to find these gems and persuade the Châteaux to let us have - the quantities are usually small.

They are all one off parcels (for the full list please scroll down) - excess production in one year, too much of a specific grape variety in another that would upset the Château’s normal blend. The downside is that we run out - as is now about happen with our wonderfully mature St Julien 2010 where we now have less than 75 cases. However, we have an addition to the list Margaux 2014 which is already beginning to show its class.

Our last parcel of declassified Margaux 2012 sold out within a matter of days leaving many of you disappointed. The good news - we have just secured a small quantity of the same from the excellent 2014 vintage (it was particularly successful in Margaux) and are offering it to our best customers first with this special pre-shipment offer.

The Margaux 2014 is from the Sichel properties within the Margaux appellation and is rich, concentrated and fairly forward. 2015 was an excellent vintage in Bordeaux - and at Château Méaume, Alan Johnson Hill’s Réserve du Château (Alan’s premium cuvée only made in the better years) is the bargain of the vintage.

Alan’s enthusiasm for the Réserve du Château 2015 is unbounded . . .

“after an unusually warm summer, conditions were perfect for a successful harvest - the extraordinary dry, sunny conditions allowed us to harvest patch by patch, timing the picking to the optimum ripeness of the grapes. All too often we have to adopt a 'bring it in quickly’ approach, but not in 2015. The wine has matured well over the winter and we have selected a tank of pure merlot for the year's ‘Réserve du Château’. The wine is now being aged in French oak."

The Réserve du Château 2015 is an exceptional wine – it is dark in colour, packed with fruit, round and sumptuous, soft and plummy, with many years of pleasurable drinking ahead (2018 to 2032). It comes in wooden cases of 12 and will be delivered in the autumn of 2017.

This is a wine that we should all buy as much as we can afford – it will provide many years of good quality drinking claret for less than £10 a bottle once Duty, VAT and delivery charges have been paid on its arrival in the UK.

We would like to share with you a bit of information about one of our Best Sellers...

Château Les Ormes – Our Best Sellers

We’ve been thrilled at the Perfect Cellar that Château Les Ormes Saint-Julien 2008 has become one of our top 10 selling wines. Not only is it a fabulous wine but it’s also exclusive to us in the U.K. This is based on online sales since the New Year but now we have a retail space as part of the Clerkenwell Collection we’re confident of selling even more.

A Vineyard in Saint-Julien

Saint-Julien lies on the Left-bank of Bordeaux with the river Gironde flowing close by. The soil is predominantly gravel on which Cabernet Sauvignon thrives so it is no surprise to find Château Les Ormes is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon. The remainder is made up of Merlot and it is because of this combination of grapes, along with the terroir, why Saint-Julien is considered to be the most elegant of all the Left-bank appellations.

The quality of the wines in the area speaks for itself with 85% belonging to the Cru Classé. Were Château Les Ormes around back in 1855 when the classification was created it would surely have been languishing in the higher echelons of the list. Owners Fabienne & Philippe Pairault have a hands-on attitude to their wine and are involved in all aspects of its production. From the way the vines grow, to the harvesting and design of the label, which is chic and elegant. They firmly believe in maintaining a total respect for the environment as a way of preserving the area for future generations.

The winemaker at Château Les Ormes is the young and dynamic Diana Garcia-Gonzalez who has set out to make a feminine style of Saint-Julien. She has created a wine of great complexity and finesse that doesn’t have the powerful tannins of some of it’s counterparts, so is easier drinking, approachable and rounded much earlier. The Cabernet Sauvignon dominant in this wine shows itself with cedar, black fruits and a hint of minty, herby coolness. The palate is tight and grippy meaning it will pair perfectly with red meat dishes, especially steak or barbequed food. The Merlot portion adds an elegance to the robust blend with lots of plummy fruit and supple tannins. Add to this the time spent ageing and the mouthfeel is firm yet rich with a delicate floral finish.
