Hit The Beach This Easter

The sunny spring weather makes it the perfect time to visit ZSL London Zoo's newest exhibit - Penguin Beach.

This Easter is the perfect time to hit the beach - Penguin Beach that is! The newest exhibit at ZSL London Zoo takes visitors from the heart of London to the heart of a South American beach and is England's largest penguin pool, home to a colony of over 60 penguins. The exhibit also features a penguin nursery, and an early Easter egg hunt has already begun as zookeepers have found the first penguin eggs of the year.

The daily penguin feed is a time-honoured tradition at the Zoo, and Penguin Beach Live! is the Zoo’s newest and most popular yet. Watch the penguins duck and dive demonstrating their natural behaviours and learn more about these fascinating animals. Ahead of your visit, why not check out how the penguins are doing on our new Penguin Beach Cam.

You can also visit some of the many other Spring arrivals in the Zoo, including the baby cotton-topped tamarin twins and baby Sulawesi crested macaque.

Penguins Dive In For 2012 Games

As Olympic fever hits the capital, the penguins at ZSL London Zoo are getting in on the act – with their very own diving board.
To celebrate ZSL London Zoo being awarded LOCOG’s Inspired by 2012 mark for its summer Animal Athletes programme, the sporty birds have had their very own diving board installed for the occasion.

Having already perfected their penguin-stroke and mastered the flipper-crawl, the Zoo’s colony of 64 penguins practiced their spectacular diving skills, ready to show them off at the famous Penguin Beach Live! demonstration.

Head Bird keeper, Adrian Walls said: “The penguins love nothing more than to show off their diving skills and really play up to the audiences during Penguin Beach Live!; they loved having their very own diving board for the day.

Sealion Splash Live! Returns For Easter

The sealions at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo are busy putting the finishing touches to Sealion Splash Live! which returns just in time for Easter.
Dom, Bailey, Lara, Kyra and Salt will be demonstrating their aquatic skills and balancing prowess in their newly revamped pool, giving visitors a unique chance to see them up close and learn more about them as they demonstrate their natural behaviours.

Senior keeper Alex Pinnell said: “The sealions are back into the swing of things after their relaxing holiday at ZSL London Zoo while their pool was refurbished. Training has been going really well and we can’t wait to get started. Sealion Splash Live! is really good opportunity for visitors to get up close to the sealions and learn more about them and we’ve been working hard to make sure the shows are the best they can be. They’re livelier and there’s a good chance of getting soaked if you stand too near to the front!”
