Members' Events At English Heritage

This week at English Heritage we wanted to highlight just one of the perks of being a member.

Our Member’s Event programme strives to give its participants a new and stimulating experience, be it a behind the scenes glimpse or an exploration in the company of an expert.

However we want to make the experience as pleasant and comfortable as possible, therefore we have devised a grading system taking into account the site’s terrain, historic features, access points and weather conditions.

Battlefield Walk: The Battle of Winceby 1643

Join Julian Humphrys Development Officer for the Battlefields Trust for an anniversary five mile walk over the site of a Lincolnshire battle which was an important moment in the careers of future Parliamentarian leaders Oliver Cromwell and Thomas Fairfax. The Roundheads were victorious although Cromwell was lucky to escape after his horse was killed.

The Battlefields Trust is a UK charity dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of England's Battlefields. As its Development Officer, Julian has worked closely with English Heritage over the years and is the author of a number of books and articles on British battles and sieges. This event has been graded as moderate access due to the uneven ground on the battlefield.

From 18th century Mad Houses to 19th century mansions, join curator Charlotte Newman in the Wrest Park Collection Store as we take a look at the lost buildings of London and place the displaced through objects in the Architectural Study Collection. Light refreshments included.

This event has been graded as Moderate Access low lighting and stairs inside the house.

Join expert Andy Oldfield for a day and discover the art of stone carving. Lullingstone Roman Villa provides the perfect location for the day, which will include a demonstration, practical advice and hands-on sessions. All tools and materials will be provided, as will a light lunch.

This event has been graded as Moderate Access as you will be working with hand-tools are will be required to stand for long periods of time.
