As the Olympic Games draw to a close, Zaire, a 38-year-old western lowland gorilla, at ZSL London Zoo shows her pride and support for Team GB. With her lunchtime snack of monkey nuts hidden within the patriotic wrapper, Zaire picked up the flag and gave it a good sniff before taking a seat proudly above the Union Jack hanging in her enclosure. Zookeeper Paul Kybett said: “Zaire is a very curious gorilla and loves discovering new things – particularly if it’s something colourful. “She seems quite taken with the Union Jack flag and is showing off her pride in our Team GB athletes!” The gorillas at ZSL London Zoo are given hessian sacks and puzzle feeders stuffed with their favourite treats to encourage their natural foraging behaviours.
