A delicious, stylish, balanced Sancerre that drinks beautifully early on and develops well with age. Quite a ripe style for Sancerre with almost New Zealand like gooseberry fruit along with pear and apple. Zesty but ripe acidity, lovely minerality anchoring it firmly in Sancerre! and a clean, long finish.

One step up the Sancerre ladder comes the delicious ‘Le Vallon’, which spends just a touch longer maturing on its lees for added depth and richness of fruit. There is a wealth of broad, baked apple fruit and spice on the nose that really does invite.

Sancerre Blanc ’Le Chatillet’, Dom. Balland-Chapuis
These stoney soils dominated by limestone give broader Sauvignon fruit, but the Balland-Chapuis version is everything good Sancerre should be. Ripe apple aromas on the nose, but subtle; a touch of blackcurrant leaf, then a very nicely defined palate of Granny Smith and lime cordial, with elderflower notes and good minerality. Excellent with all fish dishes, salads, and goat’s cheese especially.
