IL PAPAVERO PRIMITIVO 2011 £77.88 (12 bottles) SAVE £18.00, £38.94 (6 bottles) SAVE £9.00
Scipione Giuliani is the 5th generation winemaker behind our best selling Italian range under the Papavero (the poppy) label. The original Il Papavero has been a chart topper for years and this mighty Primitivo is its big brother. It captures the essence of sun drenched southern Italy. Every vintage, Scipi selects the ripest grapes from the top performing regions to ensure consistently delicious quality. In 2011 he pulled a few strings with contacts in Puglia to reserve the absolute pick of an intensely flavoured old vine Primitivo crop. To match their richness he aged the wine in barrel to add spice and mellow complexity. Enjoy this smooth, weighty red with spaghetti with a tomato, garlic and basil sauce, or a lamb or pork casserole.

White Wine

WESTEND ESTATE NO.1 CHARDONNAY 2011 £89.88 (12 bottles) SAVE £18.00, £44.94 (6 bottles) SAVE £9.00
The Westend Estate was founded by Italian immigrants Francesco and Elizabeth Calabria in 1945, but really took off when their son, Bill, took over in 1974. When he left school he formed a band with Pat Sergi of nearby Riverina Wines and also enjoyed some success as a boxer - becoming welterweight champion of Riverina at 21. It soon became apparent, however, that his real talent lay in winemaking.Bill's aim is to make affordable, high quality wines, and he does this by sourcing the best quality grapes from the region and fermenting them in small parcels at his wine shed, overseeing every stage of production himself. Creamy, rounded and elegant, his No.1 Chardonnay is delicious with sauced fish dishes and spot on with roast chicken.

An 18 inch wicker basket packed with an impressive savoury and sweet selection plus two fine wines
