Red Wine

Gunboat Point Pinot Noir 2011 £209.88 (12 bottles), £104.94 (6 bottles)
Intense aromas and ripe, gently spiced Summer berry flavours, and that classic poise and finesse. No wonder The Times says "Burgundy now has a serious New World rival" that will "knock the rest of the Pinot Noir gang for six". Because Gunboat Pinot Noir comes from the hottest new address for this seductive grape - Central Otago. The southern tip of New Zealand's South Island boasts a who's who of Kiwi wine talent and the top wines here now command up to £35 a bottle. World acclaimed Pinot maestro Nigel Greening (whose day job is at one of those top end boutique estates) has used all his expertise and contacts to help us find the wine, giving you a taste of Otago's finest style. A must with tuna steaks, white meats or mushroom risotto.

White Wine

Hunter's Gewurztraminer 2011 £167.88 (12 bottles), £83.94 (6 bottles)
Thirty years ago Marlborough was known only for barley and sheep. The success story of this remote wine region is one of the most remarkable in modern times, and one in which Hunter's can justly claim to have played a major part. Today it is run by Jane Hunter, a highly trained viticulturist with a string of accolades for her work, including a 'UK Women in Wine Award', an OBE and, most recently, Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM) for services to viticulture. This is a classic Gewurztraminer, the great grape of Alsace, clearly right at home in the Marlborough climate. Rich, zesty and just off-dry, with passionfruit, lychee and rose petal aromas, it's mouthwateringly delicious on its own or with curries and stir-fries.

Champagne & Sparkling

South Ridge Cuvée Merret 2010 £95.94 (6 bottles)
Ridgeview was founded by Mike Roberts in 1994 and is dedicated to creating world class sparkling wines in the South Downs. Indeed, the soil is the exact same chalk/clay mix as found in Champagne and, with a similar climate, no wonder Mike can grow such great Chardonnay and Pinot grapes. So great has been his success that several big Champagne houses have made overtures to buy the property - but Mike is having none of it. He named this wine after an Englishman, Christopher Merret, who presented a paper to London's Royal Society documenting the process of making traditional method sparkling wines - some 30 years before the Champenois discovered it!Delicate bubbles, fabulous flavour, this sparkler is delicious on its own or with canapés.
