THE HUNDRED RESERVE 2011 £83.88 (12 bottles), £41.94 (6 bottles)
Our exclusive label, The Hundred, has played host to some amazing cuvées over the years and this Reserve Cabernet is one of the best yet. It comes from Conawarra which recently produced Australia's first $1000 bottle of wine - Penfold's Bin 620. This exclusive parcel may not be in quite the same league but nonetheless it's great quality and exceptionally good value. As the wine is from an estate that normally commands much higher prices, we're sworn to secrecy on its precise provenance. Rest assured it's from the region's famed terra rossa soils and was aged 16 months in fine oak. From Coonawarra's small 2011 harvest, it's notably rich with dense cassis and an integrated spicy character. Decant prior to serving with roast lamb or beef.
LIME LEAF VERDEJO 2011 £83.88 (12 bottles), £41.94 (6 bottles)
We owe the discovery of this racy, aromatic gem to virtuoso winemaker Javier Murúa, whose grandfather founded the renowned Rioja estate Bodegas Muriel. As well as crafting some of our most popular Riojas, Javier uses his excellent contacts throughout Spain to find small parcels of wine that need a home - and when he heard of a cellar in Rueda (one of Spain's top regions for crisp whites) that needed help with bottling costs, he called us. We tasted the wine - a pure, limy Verdejo, bursting with vibrant lemony notes - and took the lot! To keep the price down we decided to label Lime Leaf as 'table wine' - yet in taste it's anything but! Enjoy, as the Spanish would, as a refreshing aperitivo, or with grilled white fish, shellfish or salads.
COLLINA DEI CILIEGI AMARONE CLASSICO 2007 £150.00 (6 bottles)
Pick up any wine reference book and you'll see Amarone wines described in glowing terms. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate calls Amarone "one of the unique and noble wines in the world". When a group of friends passionate about wine resolved to create the greatest example of all, they poured everything into it. They selected the very best grapes from the most prestigious vineyards and hired the leading craftsmen. Every bunch was meticulously hand picked then air dried for more than a month to concentrate flavour and richness before fermentation and 18 months in finest oak barrels. The result is a powerful wine of exceptional smoothness and complexity, one you should decant and serve with rich bistro dishes such as wild boar casserole.
