THE HUNDRED RESERVE 2011 £83.88 (12 bottles), £41.94 (6 bottles)
Our exclusive label, The Hundred, has played host to some amazing cuvées over the years and this Reserve Cabernet is one of the best yet. It comes from Conawarra which recently produced Australia's first $1000 bottle of wine - Penfold's Bin 620. This exclusive parcel may not be in quite the same league but nonetheless it's great quality and exceptionally good value. As the wine is from an estate that normally commands much higher prices, we're sworn to secrecy on its precise provenance. Rest assured it's from the region's famed terra rossa soils and was aged 16 months in fine oak. From Coonawarra's small 2011 harvest, it's notably rich with dense cassis and an integrated spicy character. Decant prior to serving with roast lamb or beef.
VISIONARIO 2011 £95.88 (12 bottles), £47.94 (6 bottles)
The cool Alpine climate of the Veneto in northern Italy is perfect for creating crisp, aromatic whites. Many are made from Pinot Grigio, but this 'visionary' white is an inspired blend from Alessandro Gallici. Born and raised in Friuli, he knows the vineyards like the backs of his hands. For many years he was head winemaker at a top cellar in the heart of the region, but last year he decided to branch out on his own - and we were only too delighted to follow him. By combining the local Friulano grape with a number of international varieties, including Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer, Alessandro has created a wonderfully aromatic wine. A refreshing apéritif, Visionario is great with food, too - trout with almonds, chicken or creamy pasta.
LAURENT-PERRIER BRUT CHAMPAGNE NV £167.94 (6 bottles)
Laurent Perrier is one of the most famous of the Grandes Marques ('Big Name') Champagnes and the region's largest family owned house today. So, as The Times suggests, "Why not splash out on a top drawer bubbly: the clean, lively, green apple spiked Laurent Perrier Brut is one of the best on the block." Dating back to 1812, Laurent Perrier was bought in 1939 by Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt (of Champagne Lanson), who successfully raised its profile around the world.Fresh and racy with a Chablis like mineral character and very fine, persistent bubbles, this is the classic apéritif and celebration wine, also partnering canapés and shellfish to perfection. Beautifully presented in an LP box, it's an ideal gift if you want to impress.
