The historic Ramón Bilboa winery dates back to 1927, but behind its elegant facade visitors can admire the latest winemaking technology. Below ground, in its extensive cellars, row upon row of top-quality barrels, produced by local master coopers to the exacting standard of the winemakers, provide perfect conditions for maturing their delicious wines. The Alta region of Rioja, where the Bilboa bodega lies, has the highest vineyards and, as a consequence, enjoys a cooler climate than the other two parts of Rioja - Baja and the Alavesa. This suits early-ripening Tempranillo - and helps retain the delicious freshness of the fruit. This fine Rioja will be ideal with lamb, a spicy chorizo-topped pizza or a Spanish-style pork and bean stew.

A member of the fourth generation of this family to be involved in making Champagne in the Marne Valley, Sébastien Haton is one of the region's great talents. He makes stunning, handcrafted wines with flavour, quality and value superior to many famous Grandes Marques.This superb Blanc de Noirs is crafted from Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier (both are black skinned grapes with clear juice) from the family's vineyards in Damery, where Sébastien's great grandfather started out in 1928. The combination of black grapes and lees ageing for 18 months results in a full flavoured style - really rich and toasty with fine bubbles and mouthwatering freshness. A celebration in itself, and a fine partner to canapés, smoked salmon or Chinese food.
