SOUTH AFRICAN WHITES £83.88
Fill your fridge with crisp South African whites for guaranteed refreshment and a BIG £13 discount
If you're a fan of intense, mouthwatering whites, we suggest you try South Africa. The country's Chenin Blancs are famous and you'll understand why when you taste The Rustler. Bruce Jack's Chardonnay is rich and complex thanks to a gentle lick of oak, while Gooseberry Bush and Waterval Hoek are gloriously aromatic. We close your case with two stars from Stumble Vineyards - their nettle-leaf fresh Sauvignon Blanc and their ultra-rare WHITE Pinotage.
CHAPELLE SAINT ETIENNE 2009 £89.88 (12 bottles), £44.94 (6 bottles), £9.79 (1 bottle)
The Coteaux du Languedoc is one of the most exciting AOCs of the Midi, where new discoveries of great terroir are still being made. Saint Chinian and Faugères have already emerged as AOCs in their own right, and there are also some regions being recognised as special Languedoc Crus. Of these, the two most famous are La Clape and Pic Saint Loup - where this fine red comes from.Made mostly from Syrah for its elegant structure and spicy bramble fruit, with a little Grenache for its lush raspberry notes and Mourvèdre for depth and spicy, blackcurrant flavours, Chapelle Saint Etienne 2009 is a wine that, once opened, is difficult to resist. Open a bottle an hour before serving with braised lamb shanks or a Provençal chicken casserole.
VISIONARIO 2011 £95.88 (12 bottles), £47.94 (6 bottles), £9.99 (1 bottle)
The cool Alpine climate of the Veneto in northern Italy is perfect for creating crisp, aromatic whites. Many are made from Pinot Grigio, but this 'visionary' white is an inspired blend from Alessandro Gallici. Born and raised in Friuli, he knows the vineyards like the backs of his hands. For many years he was head winemaker at a top cellar in the heart of the region, but last year he decided to branch out on his own - and we were only too delighted to follow him. By combining the local Friulano grape with a number of international varieties, including Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer, Alessandro has created a wonderfully aromatic wine. A refreshing apéritif, Visionario is great with food, too - trout with almonds, chicken or creamy pasta.
Champagne & Sparkling
PAUL GOERG PREMIER CRU BRUT TRADITION NV £119.44 (6 bottles), £23.99 (1 bottle)
This fine Champagne was made at Paul Goerg's well-equipped Champagne house, located at the heart of the Côte des Blancs region. The cellar was established in 1950 and has access to the fruit of over 120 hectares of vines, mostly in the superior Vertus region - known for the particular richness of its Chardonnay. The best grapes were selected from Premier Cru slopes, and vinified using a combination of traditional expertise and the latest technology, to produce a top quality Champagne. As with all Paul Goerg Champagnes, this wine was left to mature on its lees for three years, giving it a delicious biscuity character and creamy richness.Serve chilled on its own or at any celebration, or with canapés and creamy white meat or fish dishes.
