Laithwaites Portuguese Wines
Hi Affiliates,
The Portuguese wine story is in many ways similar to Spain's. Massive EU investment has triggered a quality revolution in the last 20 years and today, highly trained winemakers using modern equipment are coaxing fabulously smooth and fruity flavours from Portugal's local grapes.
Wine is made throughout Portugal from north to south but we've been particularly impressed by those from Estremadura and Ribatejo, as well as with the dry wines from Port country - the Douro.
So, if you're tempted to try Portuguese table wines, don't be deterred by unfamiliar names. Do, however, expect to be delighted by the fabulous and original flavours on offer from some of these delicious Portuguese wines.
Brigando Shiraz, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional 2010
From £5.99 per bottle
Introducing this deliciously rich and weighty new wine from José Neiva. José is one of the biggest names in Portuguese wine and has scooped the coveted 'Red Wine of the Year' Trophy at the International Wine Challenge not just once, but twice. To make this juicy, lip-smacking red, José blends Shiraz with two of Port's star varieties, all grown on his own lovingly tended estate. His vineyards are close to the Atlantic and benefit from cooling coastal breezes. That gives his grapes longer time to ripen, concentrating the flavours of cassis, raspberry and blackberry.
