Grow Spring Cress Eggs At Home - a project by toucanBox
Encourage that dash of science around the craft
Who doesn't like a good Easter holiday? Our little customers certainly love it so we'd like to make it even more special for them. Let’s get ready for sunny spells, April showers, flowers in bloom, baby animals and, of course, the odd chocolate egg or two.
It’s the perfect time to grow something at home! Growing any kind of plant or flower is a fascinating experience for children, and encourages the development of some key scientific skills.
- Encourage them to observe and record daily changes
- Consider how often they need to feed the plant
- Draw conclusions about what a plant needs to live.
We’ve suggested using cress seeds because they grow so quickly - and so do require slightly less patience - but you could have a go and using different seeds. Grass also works very well, too.
To find out more details about this project, please read the full post on the toucanBox blog where you can see a list of necessary materials, download cress animal templates and a fun child-friendly journal to record your plant’s progress, and learn a thing or two about what a flower needs to grow.

Make a page saver bookmark | World Book Day
If you’re about to embark on an exciting new book, you might need a nifty little gadget to save your pages. “Where on earth am I going to find a nifty little gadget from?” you might ask.
To save the day, superhero style, we’ve created a page saver bookmark that you can print at home for free. This one features a peaceful dinosaur pal to watch over your saved page. But once you’ve got the hang of the origami folds, why not have a go at making your own designs? You could even use your favourite book character as inspiration.
Healthy Snack Recipe for Kids
A sure-fire way to get kids excited about eating healthy food is to get them involved in making it. While we don’t recommend letting them loose with the knives, there are plenty of learning opportunities for children that you can make the most of whilst cooking together.
