DFDS

In 1866 several small Danish shipping companies merged to form what has come to be the oldest major shipping company in Denmark: DFDS - "Det Forenede Dampskibs-Selskab" (The United Steamship Company). Today DFDS is a financially sound company with good growth - because over the years (particularly the most recent ones) it has understood the importance of adapting its business model - or philosophy - when necessary. DFDS is still sailing on some of the same routes begun in the 1800s. And DFDS still has beautiful and exciting ships - fascinating to us all. The level of development in DFDS between 1966-2006 has been more rapid in all areas than in the preceding 100 years combined. Technology has advanced with lightning speed, some activities have been discontinued, new ones started up and again suspended, others further developed and strengthened. Through a brief historical retrospective you will get a picture of the DFDS company and its manifold activities from its inception in 1866 up to the DFDS Seaways known today.
