Both Connecticut Baptisms and Connecticut Marriages contain records for celebrated American Patriot, Nathan Hale. Hale was an American soldier and spy for the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He volunteered for an intelligence-gathering mission in New York City but was captured by the British and executed. Hale has long been considered an American hero and, in 1985, was officially designated the state hero of Connecticut. He is perhaps best known for uttering the famous phrase; "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country" in the moments prior to his death. The records show how Hale was born in Coventry, Connecticut, in 1755 to Richard Hale and Elizabeth Strong and was laid to rest in the town of his birth in September of 1776, just days after his execution.
