ZSL Whipsnade Zoo presents Elephantasia on 22nd & 23rd September 2012. The zoo is trumpeting all things Elephant and all things Asian, with a mammoth celebration of Elephant Appreciation Weekend. This is to help raise vital funds for elephant conservation and research projects.
Guaranteed to be a fun-filled educational day, visitors can join ZSL Whipsnade Zoo’s herd of Asian elephants on their daily stroll around the hilltop site, watch them take their daily bath or be astounded by a special version of the amazing Elephantastic demonstration.
Visitors who make a donation on the day to elephant conservation and research projects can also have the chance to go on a behind-the-scenes tour of the elephant barn or meet one of the Zoo’s elephants and have their picture taken with them.
There’ll be an action-packed programme of Asian-inspired activities and entertainment. The whole family can be enthralled by a range of Asian music and dance performances. Kids can get creative in one of our hands-on workshops including mask-making, percussion and chili pot planting.
All activities are on a first come first serve basis. Whilst we want as many people as possible to experience close up encounters with our majestic Asian elephants, their welfare and your safety is of the utmost importance to us and therefore our keepers reserve the right to withdraw the elephants from the event at any time and sessions will cease. We ask for your understanding should such an instance occur.
Elephantasia activities and entertainment are included in Zoo entry cost, excluding activities mentioned above which require a donation. All funds go directly towards elephant conservation and research projects. ZSL members get Zoo entry free.
