These days, the estate is run by Jean-Pierre Bauget and his wife Beatrice, who own 14ha of vines around Epernay, where Chardonnay is the predominant variety planted. They still use the original 18th century cellars which are dug 27 metres into the chalk below Epernay.

Vigne Nuove Montepulciano, Valle Reale
The ’classic’ wine from this estate and something of a powerhouse. Lovely blueberry, damson and black cherry fruit with tobacco leaf and mineral notes. A great all rounder. The 2006 vintage has won Gambero Rosso’s Maximum Three Glasses - an exceptional achievment.

Pouilly-Loche Vieilles Vignes, Marcel Couturier
From 85 year-old vines. Hints of grassiness on the nose, minerally, ripe stone fruits. Good weight in the palate, creamy, ripe orchard fruits; good acidity. Medium-long, balanced finish. Excellent food wine; good roast chicken for example.

Merlot / Syrah, Terres Rousses
Yannick and the team have really captured the enticing damson and cherry Merlot fruit on the nose, with that faint ‘earthiness’, then Syrah shines through on the ripe, spicy but savoury palate of ripe plum, strawberry and gentle black pepper. Good food structure.

Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits, Dom. Mongeard-Mugneret
Pound for pound this is by far the best Burgundy that I`ve come across this year. Lovely, clean, ripe fruit - redcurrants and red berries, fine tannins and beautifully balanced; it has a genuine Cote d`Or character to it.

Rioja Crianza Edulis, Bodegas Altanza
100% Tempranillo gives darker fruit, raspberry, damson fruits on nicely integrated oak on the nose – this follows through on to the palate which has more weight and intensity than the Joven but without using its freshness. Good acidity and structure – the finish is quite long and balanced. Bring on the Tapas!
