5 Tips for a Successful PPC (Google Adwords) Campaigns – Part 2
Here is part two of my top tips for a successful PPC campaign:
1. Start small and refined, then scale up
If you spread yourself too thin from the beginning, then you will end up making a loss. Starting small will enable you to make small tweaks and gain a greater understanding in a progressive manner.
2. Optimize your Ad Copy
Be concise but highlight your unique selling point or special offer, avoid clichéd advertising phrases and focus on clear descriptions.
3. Find negative keywords using Google Alerts and Google Analytics
You may be surprised at the sorts of keywords which you are unknowingly bidding on. Make sure that you know what key terms show up alongside your target term, by looking at your Analytics, and also using tools such as Google Alerts. Think about terms such as brand + “scam” or “rip off”, for example. You don’t want your shopping cart page to show up when these terms are searched for.
4. Use ROI, average customer value and target CPA’s to set your Cost per Click bid
In order to make a profit from PPC bidding, you need to ensure that you have a good grasp of page and click specific average returns. Over time you should also calculate PPC specific values, since the return per click will vary depending on the source of your traffic.
5. Try to discover niches
Just like with SEO, you are likely to be much more successful being original in your keyword bidding, and staying away from crowded spaces.

Tell us something that publishers might not know about your program?
That we offer incentives and bonus structures for any affiliate that can drive lots of sales. Anyone can get in touch with us if they have an idea on how to improve the program as we genuinely care about our affiliates’ opinions.
Which months are most important for your brand? When are your key sales periods?
Every month is important at mobiles.co.uk as our customers are always in the need for new mobile phone contracts or an upgrade. Our biggest spikes in volume tend to be around the launch of new handsets, like the iPhone 5s.
Which methods have you found most effectively motivate your publishers?
We like to have regular calls with our affiliates as it’s important to monitor performance. We find that we can share the knowledge we’ve gained over the last 18 years and our affiliates can share their insights. This motivates our publishers to work hard and ultimately sell more mobile phone contracts
Who is your hero?
Batman – He’s relentless in everything he does. He’s ridiculously tech savvy and drives a sweet car
Also, he is clever enough to work out how to defeat Superman!
Can you recommend a film or two to the publisher community?
I’m a massive Tom Hanks fan so my favourite film is Forest Gump – It has so many great scenes and creates lots of different emotions. It’s hilarious one minute but then extremely sad the next. It’s also action packed but romantic too.
Which one website gets you through the day?
It has to be eBay. I love a bargain but I also love the fact that you ‘Win’ an item. It makes it feel like a big game. It just so happens I’m very good at the game and as a result have a great comic book collection.
Which one thing would we always find in your refrigerator?
I probably shouldn’t admit this, but I always seem to have Malteasers in my fridge! The family size box, even though it’s just for me. Shush, don’t tell slimming world!
Do you have any new/big plans for the next few months that publishers should know about?
We’ve just launched the new design of our website so for mobiles.co.uk it will just be monitoring the performance and listening to what our affiliates and customers have to say about it. We do have plans to update our basket. This will be great for conversion and improve our customers’ journey even more.
